Full Throttle Leaders: JD MIller

An Interview by Michael Falato about Leadership in GTM

Executive Summary

I joined Michael Falato on Full Throttle Leaders to examine the current state of sales and the practical application of AI in professional environments. With my background as a CRO in residence at Five Arrows, I spend my time advising portfolio companies on how to navigate the shift toward automation without discarding the human connection that determines deal success.

During our conversation, I highlighted the central tension I uncovered while researching my book, The AI Handbook for Sales Professionals. While interest in AI is pervasive, 61% of sellers have yet to integrate these tools into their daily workflows. We are currently in an experimentation phase, searching for the balance between machine-led efficiency and human-led strategy. AI excels at pattern matching and prospect research—providing the dossier that saves hours of time—but that efficiency can quickly become a noise-generation engine if not paired with genuine inquisitiveness.

We also addressed the risks for emerging professionals. If early-career sellers rely exclusively on AI for every communication, they may struggle to develop their own unique personalities and strategic instincts. We wrapped up by exploring the potential of digital twins and how technology is lowering the barrier for smaller companies to compete with incumbents by scaling their expertise in ways that were previously impossible.
